Learning Goals for September 27th to October 1st!

Math
Patterns- using shapes and colors. Identifying the pattern unit and naming patterns with letters (AB, AAB, etc.)
Math Facts - Double facts up to 10+10.
Measurement - Review lighter, heavier and equal. 
Counting- Counting forwards and backwards 1-20, 20-1. (Counting backwards is difficult, but it is a necessary skill for subtraction)
Shapes- circle, square, triangle, rectangle, trapezoid, parallelogram, rhombus and hexagon.
Story Problems- Acting out story problems and using pictures and number sentences to help solve.


Language Arts
Comprehension - Good readers make connections to their lives when they read. We can make a text-self connection when something in the story reminds of something in our own lives. 
Journals/Writing- Capital letters at the beginning of sentences, finger spaces in between words, all sentences need a who and a what's happening?, and identifying and using punctuation correctly (This skill is developed all school year long and is merely an introduction.)
Phonograms- 1-52 See list in your child's folder.
Poetry- "The Purple Cow" and "Table Manners"
Phrase- "Like a fish out of water."


Geography
Review planet, continents, country, state and city.
Review Cardinal Directions: North, East, South, and West
Review Northern Hemisphere, Southern Hemisphere and Equator.
Symbols and legends/keys.
Maps and Globes. 


Science Oceans continued.
Ocean floor- trenches, valleys, hills, mountains and plains.
Ocean life- plankton to giant whales.
